President Munroe Shares Message Celebrating Pride Month 2022
June is Pride Month, a time to recognize the struggles and celebrate the accomplishments of the LGBTQIA+ community in our institution, our city, and beyond. BMCC is offering a variety of opportunities to engage this month in the celebration across our city. BMCC Students Receive Women’s Forum Education Fund Awards
Four BMCC students— Jade Brown-Godfrey, Tsehay Gebreyes (pictured above, left), Davina Stewart (pictured above, right) and Shauna Yetman—have been named 2022 Women’s Forum Education Fund Award recipients.  BMCC had the highest number of awards among the 10 New York City colleges and universities represented. Each of the awardees, who are all age 35 or older, will receive a $10,000 award and be honored at next year’s Elly Awards—the annual Women’s Forum Education Fundraiser named for founder Elinor Guggenheimer.

BMCC Hosts 14th Annual Academic Awards Reception
The BMCC Urban Male Leadership Academy, B-UMLA, Project Impact, and BMCC Student Government Association will host the 14th Annual Academic Awards and Recognition Dinner on June 2, in Richard Harris Terrace. This event will honor student accomplishments and their commitment to success for the 2021-2022 academic year. BMCC President Anthony Munroe will be presenting remarks and the keynote speaker is Professor James Blake of the BMCC Counseling Center.

ASAP Celebrates Graduates
BMCC’s Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) celebrated its 13th graduating class with an in person open-house event for graduates on May 31 in Richard Harris Terrace at 199 Chambers Street. Students received stoles, alumni pins and decorated graduation caps in preparation for commencement on June 9.  “We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of this year's graduating class and proud of their commitment to degree completion in what has been a challenging two years,” said Deanne Southwell, Executive Director ASAP (BMCC). “There is no doubt that they will continue to succeed because they have received a strong foundation as members of ASAP and students of BMCC.”

BMCC Hosts Honors Convocation Ceremony
BMCC hosted the 2022 Honors Convocation on May 31 in Theatre at 199 Chambers Street.   The event, which was also live-streamed, recognizes outstanding student achievement both in and outside of the classroom across numerous disciplines. The event can be viewed here.

Barclays

BMCC To Confer Degrees to More Than 4,000 Students During In-Person Commencement on June 9 at Barclays Center
On Thursday, June 9, BMCC will host its first in-person commencement since the COVID-19 global pandemic necessitated a quarantine and over two years of remote learning. The college’s 57th Commencement ceremony is scheduled at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn at the crossroads of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues. Doors will open to guest at 8 a.m. Gale A. Brewer, former Manhattan Borough President, will be presented with the Presidential Medal.

EAA BMCC Announces 2021-2022 Employee Appreciation Awards Nominees
BMCC is proud to announce the 2021-2022 NOMINEES for the Employee Appreciation Awards (EAA). The EAAs are presented to non-teaching, full- and part-time administrative and/or support and service staff members who were nominated in appreciation of their overall quality of work and dedication to the College. Eligible staff levels include: Civil Service series (including Provisional); College Assistants; Research Foundation employees; Gittleson (COA, CSA, CAA); and HEO Title Series. Award categories are: Leadership, Team, Inspiration, Innovation/Technology, and Rookie of the Year! Winners will be announced on Friday June 10.

All BMCC Devices Are Due Back or Renewal Required
Please let students know that all devices, iPads, laptops, Chromebooks, hotspots and other borrowed devices are due back in June. In order to facilitate returns, Library staff will be in the lobby outside the Public Safety office at 199 Chambers to accept returns on the following dates and times:

  • Monday, June 6, from 12 to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Safety Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services
The Office of Public Safety ensures a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC through resources including free C.P.R., A.E.D. and First Aid, and Campus-Community Emergency Response Training for faculty, staff and students. Public Safety also trains staff as campus fire wardens. Cultural Corps Deadline to Apply to CUNY Cultural Corps Is June 3
Let your students know that the deadline is June 3 to apply for a paid internship at one of NYC’s cultural institutions through the CUNY Cultural Corps for the 2022-23 academic year. The program offers virtual and hybrid opportunities as well as in-person opportunities contingent on COVID regulations and guidelines. Petrie and STEM Summer Tuition Waivers Help Students Complete Their Degrees
BMCC will offer two tuition waivers in Summer 2022: the Petrie Completion Waiver and the STEM Waiver. To be eligible, students must be degree-seeking at BMCC. Each waiver covers $210 per credit. Please note that only tuition will be waived and recipients will be responsible for all fees and materials, such as textbooks. To qualify, students must register no later than no later than June 15 for classes starting July 20. 

  • Students eligible for the Petrie Completion waiver must have three or fewer courses left to complete their associate degree and use the waiver to complete those courses. They can apply one tuition waiver in the summer session that starts on July 20.
  • Students eligible for the STEM waiver must be an NYC resident and U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time the waiver is applied. They must enroll in a credit-bearing math, science or computer science course that counts toward their degree and can apply the one waiver each for classes in the summer sessions starting May 31 and July 20. Other courses covered by the STEM waiver are: ANI 401, 402 and 260; any CIS, EMC 100 and 303; HIT 210, LIN 101, MEA 201 and 371; MMA 100, MMP 100, NUR 415, PHI 110, PSY 100 and RTT 210. MBJ MBJ Food Service Summer Hours 
MBJ Food Service (Cafeteria) at BMCC's 199 Chambers Street campus, will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday through August 24. For more information email mbjfoodservice@bmcc.cuny.edu.  
Produce BMCC Students Can Receive Free Bag of Produce 
Currently registered BMCC students can receive a free bag of fresh produce, thanks to a partnership between the New York City Council, CUNY and Grow NYC. The produce distribution will take place on Tuesdays through June 21 between 12 and 3 p.m. Students must sign up in advance by clicking the registration link and completing a brief survey.
Cafeteria BMCC Panther Pantry Assists Students Facing Food Insecurity 
BMCC students facing a food emergency are encouraged to visit the Panther Pantry and take home pre-packed bags of nutritious, non-perishable food. The pantry distributes bags of food, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hot meals are distributed Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-230. COVID-19 Treatments Available For NYC Residents Age 12 and Over
Treatment is available to NYC residents age 12 and older who test positive for COVID-19. Only a healthcare provider can prescribe treatment, which could be a daily pill taken for five days or a one-time IV or injection. Treatment is free and can be delivered to your home within 24 hours. These treatments can lessen symptoms and help keep you out of the hospital. Faculty and Staff Deadline to Upload Vaccine Verification Extended to May 27
CUNY and the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY (PSC) have agreed to revise the date by which all full- and part-time faculty and non-teaching instructional staff — including NTAs, CLTs and those in the HEO-title series — are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to upload proof of vaccination into CUNYfirst. The new deadline is May 27 and applies to ECPs, as well. Please upload proof of vaccination on CUNYfirst.

Summer and Fall 2022 Advisement and Registration is Open
Faculty and staff, please encourage students to schedule a Zoom meeting with their advisor to discuss their academic progress and registration. Things to know: All students must meet with their advisor before registering. Students can register on CUNYfirst or meet with a Panther Station Specialists on Zoom. When choosing classes on CUNYfirst, students should pay close attention to the class meeting mode (in-person, online or hybrid), as well as the class session (15, 8 or 7 weeks). Students attending in-person or hybrid classes must upload proof of vaccination. Support Available to BMCC Community Members Impacted By Tragic Events in Texas
Our hearts are heavy with the news of yesterday’s deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas, claiming the lives of the gunman’s grandmother and at least 19 children and a teacher at Robb Elementary School.  We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and citizens of Uvalde. Tragedies that occur in our nation’s schools inevitably hit close to home and cause us to feel a range of emotions and concerns. Some people may benefit from speaking with a professional counselor to help them process their reactions. Please be reminded that you and your family members have free, confidential access to support, guidance, and referrals for a variety of needs and concerns through CCA@YourService. Please reach out confidentially to 800-833-8707. Mandatory Trainings for Full-Time Staff and Faculty 
Employee Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course (ESPARC) and Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP) trainings are mandatory for all BMCC full-time faculty and staff. The deadline to complete the trainings is July 28. Trainings can be completed via Blackboard and are located under My Organizations. Human Resources will also be hosting the WVP training on June 2 at 10:30 a.m. To sign up email Josefa Larios, jlarios@bmcc.cuny.edu, ASAP with your CUNYfirst ID number and the training you want to attend.
