TOMORROW, June 9: Mayor Adams and Chancellor Rodríguez Join BMCC Commencement, Degrees Will Be Conferred to More Than 4,000 Students at Barclays Center 
On Thursday, June 9, BMCC will host its first in-person commencement at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Doors will open to guests at 8 a.m. and face masks are required.  New York City Mayor Eric Adams will join the college’s 57th Commencement ceremony as will CUNY Chancellor Felix V. Matos Rodríguez. District 6 NYC Council member Gale A. Brewer, who served as Manhattan Borough President from 2014 to 2021, is the Presidential Medalist.

BMCC Establishes Partnership with Pace University to Bring Transfer Opportunities to Students
A new partnership between the BMCC and Pace University is offering transfer opportunities for BMCC students. On June 8, Dr. Anthony E. Munroe, BMCC President and Dr. Marvin Krislov, President of Pace University, participated in a signing ceremony to announce the program, which will be available Fall 2022. President Munroe says this articulation agreement supports BMCC’s strategic goal to address student retention and eliminate equity gaps for all students in every discipline.

Anti-Racist Pedagogy Creates a Place Where All Students Can Thrive
The Anti-Racist Pedagogy Summer Workshops and Faculty/Student Fellowships Project is one of seven BMCC President's Fund Projects made possible by a $30 million donation to the College by philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott in Fall 2021. Professors Kirsten Cole, Shawn Grant and Angela Polite lead the project, which builds on the Anti-Racist Pedagogy workshop series offered through the BMCC Center for Excellence, Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (CETLS) in Fall 2021. The overall goal of the Anti-Racist Pedagogy Project is to increase awareness and implement anti-racist pedagogical practices across BMCC, aligning with the BMCC Strategic Goal to “increase equity, foster inclusion and dismantle systematic racism.”

Three BMCC Students Win Mini-Grants to Implement Social Entrepreneurship Projects
BMCC Psychology major Robert Victorian, along with Business Administration majors Julius Morris and Renaldo Riggon, have each received a $500 award — matched by BMCC Launchpad — to launch their social entrepreneurship initiatives as part of a Spring 2022 internship course on Cooperative Economics. The course was provided through the BMCC Office of of Internships and Experiential Learning and the non-profit Equitunity, and was led by Equitunity founder and BMCC alumnus William Franklin (Economics, '18). The initiatives will be implemented in NYC’s most impoverished communities and incubated at the Brownsville HUB Cooperative (BHC). BMCC alumnus La’Shawn Allen-Muhammad (Liberal Arts, ’94), Executive Director of Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation, has agreed to support their implementation at the BHC, which is part of the Robin Hood Foundation Mobility Learning and Action Bets initiative. EAA BMCC Announces 2021-2022 Employee Appreciation Awards Nominees
BMCC is proud to announce the 2021-2022 NOMINEES for the Employee Appreciation Awards (EAA). The EAAs are presented to non-teaching, full- and part-time administrative and/or support and service staff members who were nominated in appreciation of their overall quality of work and dedication to the College. Eligible staff levels include: Civil Service series (including Provisional); College Assistants; Research Foundation employees; Gittleson (COA, CSA, CAA); and HEO Title Series. Award categories are: Leadership, Team, Inspiration, Innovation/Technology, and Rookie of the Year! Winners will be announced on Friday June 10.

All BMCC Devices Are Due Back or Renewal Required
Please let students know that all iPads, laptops, Chromebooks, hotspots and other borrowed devices are due back in June. If a student needs a device for summer classes, they can renew their loan in person in the BMCC Library at 199 Chambers Street. Safety Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services
The Office of Public Safety ensures a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC through resources including free C.P.R., A.E.D. and First Aid, and Campus-Community Emergency Response Training for faculty, staff and students. Public Safety also trains staff as campus fire wardens. Petrie and STEM Summer Tuition Waivers Help Students Complete Their Degrees
BMCC will offer two tuition waivers in Summer 2022: the Petrie Completion Waiver and the STEM Waiver. To be eligible, students must be degree-seeking at BMCC. Each waiver covers $210 per credit. Please note that only tuition will be waived and recipients will be responsible for all fees and materials, such as textbooks. To qualify, students must register no later than no later than June 15 for classes starting July 20.  

  • Students eligible for the Petrie Completion waiver must have three or fewer courses left to complete their associate degree and use the waiver to complete those courses. They can apply one tuition waiver in the summer session that starts on July 20.
  • Students eligible for the STEM waiver must be an NYC resident and U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time the waiver is applied. They must enroll in a credit-bearing math, science or computer science course that counts toward their degree and can apply the one waiver each for classes in the summer sessions starting May 31 and July 20. Other courses covered by the STEM waiver are: ANI 401, 402 and 260; any CIS, EMC 100 and 303; HIT 210, LIN 101, MEA 201 and 371; MMA 100, MMP 100, NUR 415, PHI 110, PSY 100 and RTT 210. MBJ MBJ Food Service Summer Hours
MBJ Food Service (Cafeteria) at BMCC's 199 Chambers Street campus, will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday through August 24. For more information email mbjfoodservice@bmcc.cuny.edu.  
Produce BMCC Students Can Receive Free Bag of Produce 
Currently registered BMCC students can receive a free bag of fresh produce, thanks to a partnership between the New York City Council, CUNY and Grow NYC. The produce distribution will take place on Tuesdays through June 21 between 12 and 3 p.m. Students must sign up in advance by clicking the registration link and completing a brief survey.
Cafeteria BMCC Panther Pantry Assists Students Facing Food Insecurity 
BMCC students facing a food emergency are encouraged to visit the Panther Pantry and take home pre-packed bags of nutritious, non-perishable food. The pantry distributes bags of food, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hot meals are distributed Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-230. COVID-19 Treatments Available For NYC Residents Age 12 and Over
Treatment is available to NYC residents age 12 and older who test positive for COVID-19. Only a healthcare provider can prescribe treatment, which could be a daily pill taken for five days or a one-time IV or injection. Treatment is free and can be delivered to your home within 24 hours. These treatments can lessen symptoms and help keep you out of the hospital. Summer and Fall 2022 Advisement and Registration is Open
Faculty and staff, please encourage students to schedule a Zoom meeting with their advisor to discuss their academic progress and registration. Things to know: All students must meet with their advisor before registering. Students can register on CUNYfirst or meet with a Panther Station Specialists on Zoom. When choosing classes on CUNYfirst, students should pay close attention to the class meeting mode (in-person, online or hybrid), as well as the class session (15, 8 or 7 weeks). Students attending in-person or hybrid classes must upload proof of vaccination. Modern Languages Professor Carol Wasserman Passes Away
Long-time BMCC Modern Languages Professor Carol Wasserman has passed away. Professor Wasserman joined BMCC in Spring 1977 and retired in 2020.  She was recognized for her 25 years of service in 2018. The Modern Languages department is planning to host a memorial service early in the Fall 2022 semester. 

Support Available to BMCC Community Members Impacted By Tragic Events in Texas
Our hearts are heavy with the news of yesterday’s deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas, claiming the lives of 19 children and two adults. We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and citizens of Uvalde. Tragedies that occur in our nation’s schools inevitably hit close to home and cause us to feel a range of emotions and concerns. Some people may benefit from speaking with a professional counselor to help them process their reactions. Please be reminded that you and your family members have free, confidential access to support, guidance, and referrals for a variety of needs and concerns through CCA@YourService. Please reach out confidentially to 800-833-8707. Mandatory Trainings for Full-Time Staff and Faculty 
Employee Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course (ESPARC) and Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP) trainings are mandatory for all BMCC full-time faculty and staff. The deadline to complete the trainings is July 28. Trainings can be completed via Blackboard and are located under My Organizations. Human Resources will also be hosting the WVP training on June 2 at 10:30 a.m. To sign up email Josefa Larios, jlarios@bmcc.cuny.edu, ASAP with your CUNYfirst ID number and the training you want to attend.
