BMCC Celebrates at Historic Commencement Ceremony
On June 9, BMCC celebrated the success of more than 4,000 graduates at the College’s 57th Commencement ceremony held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Hear from graduates and their families as well as BMCC President Anthony E. Munroe, Presidential Medalist and Council Member (D-06) Gale A. Brewer, CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez and New York City Mayor Eric Adams in this touching video.

BMCC Celebrates Class of 2022 at In-Person Ceremony
On June 16, BMCC celebrated the Class of 2022 graduating from the Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC). The ceremony was held at El Museo del Barrio. The ceremony celebrated the more than 300 MEOC students who have earned their High School Equivalency Diplomas, have been admitted to college, earned a nationally recognized credential such as Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Electronic Health Specialist, Medical Administrative Assistant, or a New York State recognized credential such as Certified Nursing Assistant and licensed Security Officer. Congratulations graduates!

BMCC Staff Shine at Employee Appreciation Awards Ceremony
BMCC hosted the sixth annual Employee Appreciation Awards on June 10 in Richard Harris Terrace at 199 Chambers Street. The event, which featured a hot lunch buffet, was the first in-person Employee Appreciation Award ceremony in two years. The ceremony was emceed by Office of Public Affairs Executive Director Manny Romero. Featured speakers included Student Affairs Vice President Marva Craig and BMCC President Anthony E. Munroe who thanked BMCC staff for their strength and resilience throughout the past two years.

Panther Partner Graduates Celebrate Their Journey 
Every semester at BMCC, over 100 students participate in the Panther Partners cohort program designed for those who are first in their families to attend college. The program provides seminars, a supportive community and one-on-one coach. Four Panther Partner participants who were among this year's graduates share their experience and words of encouragement for first-generation students.

BMCC Celebrates 10 Years of DACA and Calls for a Better Future for Students and Community
BMCC continues to advocate for change to improve the lives of undocumented students and alumni. On June 15, Dr. Anthony E. Munroe, BMCC President, and BMCC students visited the White House to speak with lawmakers about the emotional and socioeconomic impacts of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

BMCC Brings Health Education, Services to Harlem, June 16
BMCC President Anthony E. Munroe was on-hand to greet visitors, along with BMCC Nursing students and Admissions staff, during the health education fair in Harlem. The fair, held in the CUNY Center in Harlem, 55 W. 125th Street, is an opportunity for the community to visit the GE Mammogram Mobile Unit, NYC Vaccination Van, and to learn about course programming at BMCC and MEOC.

Shirley Fiterman Art Center Presents Group Exhibition, By a Thread and Solo Project ¿Quién eres tu?

Safety Eight Graduates Earn NYU Scholarships Through BMCC Pipeline Programs
Eight BMCC graduates have been accepted into NYU with full scholarships after completing the BMCC/NYU Pipeline Opportunity for Inter-Collegiate STEM Education (POISE) program or the Gallatin Undergraduate Initiative for Discovery in Education (GUIDE) program. The 2022 POISE scholarship recipients are Caroline Jakubiak (Science), Dinorah Garcia Vasquez (Computer Science) and Jonathan Toruno Altamirano (Science). The 2022 GUIDE scholarship recipients are Jade Brown-Godfrey (Science), Hollie Fitzhenry (Sociology), Mayan Hein (Science), Alexis Jacquet (Digital Marketing) and Davina Stewart (Psychology).
Juneteenth

Reflections on Juneteenth Virtual Discussion Scheduled June 20
In recognition of Juneteenth (June 19th), scholars from the BMCC Department of Ethnic and Race Studies will discuss how Africans and Afro-descendants in the Americas sought their freedom in various ways before legislation formally granted them emancipation. The virtual discussion is scheduled on June 20, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The discussion will also explore how emancipatory practices are carried into the present as resistance against the multiple forms of discrimination Black people in the Americas continue to face.

Pride Month 2022 Celebrates Inclusion
June is Pride Month and BMCC students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to take part in ongoing offerings like the exhibition Pride in Comics and Graphic Novels at the BMCC Library and to leave a message of inspiration and support on the BMCC Pride Padlet. Join BMCC at Harlem Pride 2022 Celebration Day on June 25, and march with CUNY at NYC Pride on June 26. All BMCC Devices Are Due Back or Renewal Required
Please let students know that all iPads, laptops, Chromebooks, hotspots and other borrowed devices are due back in June. If a student needs a device for summer classes, they can renew their loan in person in the BMCC Library at 199 Chambers Street. Safety Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services
The Office of Public Safety ensures a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC through resources including free C.P.R., A.E.D./First Aid, and Campus-Community Emergency Response trainings for faculty, staff and students. Public Safety also trains staff as campus fire wardens. MBJ MBJ Food Service Summer Hours
MBJ Food Service (Cafeteria) at BMCC's 199 Chambers Street campus, will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday through August 24. For more information email mbjfoodservice@bmcc.cuny.edu.  
Produce BMCC Students Can Receive Free Bag of Produce
Currently registered BMCC students can receive a free bag of fresh produce, thanks to a partnership between the New York City Council, CUNY and Grow NYC. The produce distribution will take place on Tuesdays through June 21 between 12 and 3 p.m. Students must sign up in advance by clicking the registration link and completing a brief survey.
Cafeteria BMCC Panther Pantry Assists Students Facing Food Insecurity 
BMCC students facing a food emergency are encouraged to visit the Panther Pantry and take home pre-packed bags of nutritious, non-perishable food. The pantry distributes bags of food, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hot meals are distributed Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-230. Summer and Fall 2022 Advisement and Registration is Open
Faculty and staff, please encourage students to schedule a Zoom meeting with their advisor to discuss their academic progress and registration. Things to know: All students must meet with their advisor before registering. Students can register on CUNYfirst or meet with a Panther Station Specialists on Zoom. When choosing classes on CUNYfirst, students should pay close attention to the class meeting mode (in-person, online or hybrid), as well as the class session (15, 8 or 7 weeks). Students attending in-person or hybrid classes must upload proof of vaccination. Admissions is Back in the Swing with In-Person Events   
The Admissions and Recruitment team is reintegrating on-campus Tours and Information Sessions. Campus Tours will be offered Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and the Information Sessions at 3 p.m. Be on the lookout for new and friendly faces around campus. Petrie and STEM Summer Tuition Waivers Help Students Complete Their Degrees
BMCC will offer two Summer 2022 tuition waivers: the Petrie Completion Waiver and the STEM Waiver. To be eligible, students must be degree-seeking at BMCC. Each waiver covers $210 per credit. Please note that only tuition will be waived and recipients are responsible for all fees and materials, such as textbooks. To qualify, students must have registered no later than no later than June 15 for classes starting July 20.   

  • Students eligible for the Petrie Completion waiver must have three or fewer courses left to complete their associate degree and use the waiver to complete those courses. They can apply one tuition waiver in the summer session that starts on July 20. 
  • Students eligible for the STEM waiver must be an NYC resident and U.S. citizen or permanent resident when the waiver is applied. The waiver relates to a credit-bearing math, science or computer science course that counts toward their degree. Students can apply the waiver for one class in the summer session starting July 20. Other courses covered by the STEM waiver are: ANI 401, 402 and 260; any CIS, EMC 100 and 303; HIT 210, LIN 101, MEA 201 and 371; MMA 100, MMP 100, NUR 415, PHI 110, PSY 100 and RTT 210.

Join WorkWell NYC for a six-week virtual boot camp to learn how to help create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. The New York State Deferred Compensation Plan 457b (NYSDCP) will host webinars in June for employees wanting to learn about this supplemental retirement plan with a mission to help State and local public employees bridge gaps and achieve their retirement savings goals. Please keep in mind, you can have both a 403b and 457b.
