Gov. Kathy Hochul Holds Press Event at BMCC Announcing Expansion of Tuition Assistance Program to Part-Time Students
Thousands of BMCC students stand to benefit from an expansion of the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) to support part-time students, said Governor Kathy Hochul during a press event at BMCC’s Shirley Fiterman Art Center August 18. Students who are earning 12 credits or less during a single semester will now be eligible for the program.

Several elected officials, CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez and leaders from across CUNY attended the event as did BMCC cabinet members, faculty, staff and students. The governor also introduced 34-year-old BMCC Nursing student Amy Santana, who years ago put aside her dreams of attending college and instead started working full time to care for her mother and later, her child. “Now that Governor Hochul has expanded TAP so it works for students like me, I can make my dream a reality,” said Santana.
