BMCC students in 55 majors and from every borough of New York City are filling classrooms and starting or continuing their academic and career journeys today. Welcome to BMCC!

Professors

Five BMCC Professors Awarded a Total of More Than $72K Through CUNY’s Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative
The historic Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) Council of CUNY has awarded five BMCC professors individual grants totaling $72,200 to continue developing their research and scholarly projects from September 2022 through June 2023. The awards are made possible through the generous support of the Mellon Foundation. The awardees are (L-R) professors Lissette Acosta, Kirsten Cole, RaShelle Peck, Lesley Rennis and Linda Varghese.

Cannibis BMCC Named Lead CUNY College for Cannabis Workforce and Business Development Program 
BMCC and partner Lehman College will receive $2 million in New York State funding over three years to create short-term credential programs and courses meant to provide pathways to employment in the growing cannabis industry. “We are thankful for Governor Hochul’s commitment to equity and inclusion in what is projected to be a multi-billion-dollar industry that will generate thousands of new jobs in New York state," said BMCC President Anthony E. Munroe. "BMCC is thrilled to be able to offer our students the skills training and knowledge to access a direct path into this fast-growing sector.”

$605,000 NSF Grant Funds Creation of STEM Track for Psychology Majors 
Psychology majors at BMCC can now enroll in a STEM track that will prepare them to pursue a career that is focused on neuroscience and other STEM areas. The STEM/Psychology program, part of the Department of Social Sciences, Human Services and Criminal Justice, was created through a $605,000 grant from the National Science Foundation Advancing Innovation and Impact in Undergraduate STEM Education at Two-Year Institutions of Higher Education program. Graduates will have the option to transfer without loss of credit into the Bachelor of Science in Psychology program at the City College of New York, CUNY.

CCT Foster Students' Holistic Development Through the Co-Curricular Transcript
BMCC’s Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) is an official record of students' participation and achievements outside the classroom while enrolled at BMCC. Co-curricular activities foster a student's holistic development, encourage life-long learning and build active citizenship. Faculty and staff can access a student's unofficial CCT, review current eligible activities and submit events or activities to be considered for placement on the CCT by following these five steps:

  • Click on: LOG IN in the top right corner
  • Click on: BMCC Portal
  • Sign in with the same user name and password you use to get onto a computer on campus
  • Click on the CCT Icon

Safety Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services
The Office of Public Safety ensures a safe and comfortable learning environment at BMCC through resources including free trainings for faculty, staff and students in C.P.R., A.E.D./First Aid, and Campus-Community Emergency Response. Public Safety also trains staff as campus fire wardens. MBJ BMCC Cafeteria Is Open for Fall
The BMCC cafeteria at 199 Chambers Street, also known as MBJ Food Services, is ready to serve hot meals, salads, healthy snacks, coffee and more for the fall semester. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Cafeteria BMCC Panther Pantry Assists Students Facing Food Insecurity 
BMCC students facing a food emergency are encouraged to visit the Panther Pantry and take home free, pre-packed bags of nutritious, non-perishable food, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hot meals are distributed Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. The Panther Pantry is in the Advocacy and Resource Center (ARC),199 Chambers Street, Room S-230. Learn About NY State Deferred Compensation Plan in August 30 Webinar
The New York State Deferred Compensation Plan (NYSDCP) 457(b) will host a webinar, Women & Retirement, on Tuesday, August 30 at 12 p.m. The 457(b) supplemental retirement plan is designed to help State, local and public employees achieve their savings goals and close financial gaps in retirement. Please keep in mind, you can have both a 403b and a 457b plan. You can also learn more about retirement through the Virtual & Interactive Courtyard, a virtual benefits fair focused on the NYSDCP. The Office of Public Affairs has released the new Academic Programs brochure, which provides degree program information, and the Support Programs brochure, which highlights offices and services such as financial aid and tutoring. Downloadable and online versions are available here.

Fall Registration Help: Super Zoom
Students can save time and avoid long lines by joining the online advising and registration assistance Super Zoom. Faculty and staff, please encourage students to join the Super Zoom to secure their Fall registration, and to get help uploading their proof of vaccination.  For more information, contact Academic Advisement at (212) 220-8315 or aatc@bmcc.cuny.edu. 

Registration for Fall 2022 Express Sessions is Open
This fall, BMCC is offering two express sessions: a 7-week session from September 9 to October 25; and an 8-week session from October 27 to December 21. The regular 15-week session will be August 25 to December 13. The express sessions give students the flexibility to take courses during a shorter time frame. Learn more.

  • Please keep in mind that the Fall Express Sessions will have limited course offerings and some financial aid limitations.
  • Students are encouraged to speak with an advisor to determine whether the Express Sessions are the best option for them.
  • Students can register on CUNYfirst or meet with a Panther Station Specialist on Zoom, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
