BMCC Launches Partnership with Downtown Boathouse at Pier 26
BMCC's newly formed Kayak and Outing Club was out on the Hudson River in their first open water paddling event in a burgeoning partnership with the Downtown Boathouse at Pier 26 on May 25. The partnership, part of a broader effort to provide greater opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to utilize the Hudson River Park, is aimed at providing students with training on the basics of kayaking and water safety, as well as educational information on the Hudson River ecosystem. BMCC faculty and staff have also participated in collaborative discussions with the science and education staff at the park to foster research, STEM, and science-related opportunities that benefit the BMCC community and advance the park’s goals to promote environmental stewardship and enhance the park’s estuarine sanctuary through public education, research, and habitat enhancement. BMCC currently serves on the Advisory Committee to the Hudson River Park Trust. To learn more, contact BMCC’s Director of Government and Community Relations, Doug Israel, at disrael@bmcc.cuny.edu, or Director of Research Programs, Dr. Odaelys Pollard, at opollard@bmcc.cuny.edu.
