MECA Holds First Graduation Ceremony 
The Manhattan Early College for Advertising (MECA) held its first commencement ceremony on June 22 in BMCC's Theater 2 at 199 Chambers Street. MECA students begin taking college courses at BMCC as early as 10th grade. Ninety percent of MECA’s class of 2018 will attend college in Fall 2018, including 23 students who will work toward their Associate degree at BMCC, building on credits they have already earned.  ​​

Inauguration Held for Newly Elected SGA Members  
The first BMCC Student Government Association (SGA) Inauguration and Swearing In Ceremony was held June 27 in Richard Harris Terrace at 199 Chambers Street, to welcome newly elected members Sekou Coulibaly (President); Radha Longo (Vice President); Yelinka Lopez (Treasurer); Kaddy Momoh (Secretary), and Sardor Alimukhammad, Fatema Amrin, Djenabou Bah, Wenjun Bian, Carolina Falconi, Abiha Haider, Hamna Ihtesham, Asim Khan, Shaina Louis, Geraldine Marin, Angely Messon, Neili Popal, Onofrio Porreca, Luljeta Tahiraj and Alicia Tamessar (Senators). BMCC President Antonio Pérez, Vice President ​Marva Craig, Director Harry Mars and Dean Michael Hutmaker presided at the event.   ​​

Accounting Stars Honored in Annual Ceremony  
The BMCC Accounting Department held its third annual award ceremony on May 29 at 199 Chambers Street. Marva Craig, Vice President of Student Affairs spoke to the group along with members of the Accounting faculty. Honorees who earned an overall 3.75 GPA or higher were Tamar Barratsingh, Sharmin Bhuiya, Seongmi Choi, Santana Das, Karen Eini, Mariana Getman, Shavetta Gupta, Phenstock Gurung, Jongkon Hellman, Kathleen Hoffman, Derrieka Johnson, Md Julkarnin, Majoj Khadka, Lint Lint Kyaw, Raymond Lay, Ana Leon, Jacob Pinzon, Jhorvi Rosa Calderon, Ana Tchikaidze, Cindy Terrero, Gonna Vasiuk, Vera Vazquez, Pingxia Wu, Haoyue Xuan, Erika Zheng and Jinbo Zhou. Honorees who earned an overall 3.75 GPA or higher, and also earned a 4.0 in their Accounting classes were Muhammad Ahmed, Kathleen Connolly, Alexandra Dara, Zinna Joseph, Magali Merino-Maldonado, Yana Olshevskaya, Siviki Persaud, Halyna Shvets, Mariia Shvets, Goumattie Sukraj (who was valedictorian at the 2018 BMCC Commencement), Michelle Tran, Chau Ying Tse, Yuanping Xiao, Lina Xu, Chao Zeng and Zeudis Zeud.    ​​

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Announces 2018-2019 Family Season 
BMCC TPAC presents family programming for the 2018-2019 Season. Shows include Charlotte’s Web, Dragons Love Tacos,The Magic School Bus and more. Tickets are $30 or $13 with a 10Club membership. BMCC Accreditation Reaffirmed by Middle States Commission on Higher Education
On June 22, 2018, a letter from Gary L. Wirt, Chair of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), informed BMCC President Antonio Pérez that the MSCHE has reaffirmed BMCC'S accreditation, based on results of a college-wide, 10-year institutional self-study that culminated with submission to MSCHE in Spring 2018 of the BMCC Middle States Self-Study Report 2017-2018​.   

Electrical Work at Main Campus: June 29 - July 1 
From June 29 through July 1, critical work to address damage from Hurricane Sandy will be performed on the electrical system at BMCC's main campus building, 199 Chambers Street. For safety reasons, access to the building will not be permitted at that time. Other campus buildings will not be affected.​

Save Files and Shut Down Your Computer: June 29 - July 1
Due to electrical work scheduled for June 29 through July 1 at 199 Chambers Street, the College community is asked to shut down all computers in that building. Free Summer Events and Trips for Summer 2018 Students 
The BMCC Office of Student Activities (OSA) organizes outings for BMCC students, free of charge. Students enrolled in Summer 208 classes are randomly selected from a lottery announced in their BMCC email. Trips range from a visiting a Mets game to the Splish Splash Water Park. CUNY IT Conference Proposals: Deadline September 17 
The 17th Annual CUNY IT Conference will be held November 29 and 30 at John Jay College. BMCC faculty and staff are invited to submit proposals online by September 17 at 5 p.m. for panels, presentations, and workshops that explore the challenges and opportunities of using technology in higher education​.

Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services The Office of Public Safety provides services and resources to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC. Public Safety provides free C.P.R., A.E.D. and First Aid and Campus-Community Emergency Response Training for faculty, staff and students, and also trains staff as campus fire wardens. Summer 2018 Open House
More than 450 prospective students and guests attended the Summer 2018 Open House on June 23. The event showcased robotics research projects, a Panther Tank entrepreneurship session, a musical jam session and highlights of the college’s academic programs and services. Prospective students experienced the exciting opportunities that await them at BMCC, and faculty, staff and student volunteers made the event a rousing success.
