Staff Encouraged to Take Online Satisfaction Survey
BMCC staff are encouraged to complete the College’s 2018-2019 Staff Satisfaction Survey by clicking HERE. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. All responses will remain anonymous. In order to collect the most useful information possible, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning needs to hear from as many staff as possible from across all departments and title classifications. Please do take this opportunity to make your voice heard. The College will publish the results of the survey and use your input to enhance our working and learning community. For more information, please contact Christopher Shults, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning at cshults@bmcc.cuny.edu. The survey will close at 5 p.m. on July 31.

Workshop

Students Explore Careers at Workshop and Networking Event
The Center for Career Development, Office of Internships and Experiential Learning, Academic Advisement and Transfer Center and Modern Languages department sponsored a career exploration workshop on June 26 at Fiterman Hall. The event included breakout sessions, panel presentations and a networking lunch with career professionals representing the business, healthcare and non-profit sectors. Students were encouraged to identify core interests for both academic and career exploration so as to maximize their time at BMCC for career success.

Water Lines Repair Scheduled
The Office of Buildings and Grounds will be completing necessary repairs to the water lines at 199 Chambers Street on July 11, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All services are expected to be back to normal operation by July 13 at 7 a.m. Limited areas in the building will be impacted with no water service during the time of the repairs. In order to perform this work the north sidewalk along Harrison Street will also be impacted. These critical repairs will allow the Buildings and Grounds team to isolate areas of the building when plumbing repairs are required, without having to impact the entire building.

New Work Order System Implemented at BMCC
The Office of Campus Planning and Facilities has launched the Archibus Work Order system, which will allow designated individuals in each campus department to submit work orders, and track the progress of the request. For more information, contact the Office of Campus Planning and Facilities by email and include “Archibus Work Order System” in the subject line.Plaza Reconstruction Project Update

As part of the upcoming Plaza Reconstruction project at BMCC, abatement of hazardous materials identified in the underlayment of the existing pavers will be performed at various phases of the construction project. This activity, which began January 21, is regulated by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, which ensures the safe and proper removal and disposal of these materials. Abatement notifications posted on all building entrances are part of these requirements and are there to inform the occupants of these activities. The required notices are not meant to alarm our building occupants, but to keep everyone informed that the work will be performed in a safe and regulated manner. We apologize for any inconvenience this upcoming construction may cause as we work to improve our facilities. For more information, contact Eric Lugo at elugo@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Bathroom Renovation Update: Phase 5
BMCC has undertaken a comprehensive 26-bathroom renovation project at the Chambers Street building. The project’s focus is to provide greater accessibility, ventilation and temperature control systems. Upgrades include new stalls, floors, fixtures, ceilings and lighting. Renovations have been completed in the north side bathrooms, and those in the south side will be finished in Fall 2019. BMCC has begun Phase 5 (final phase) of renovations, affecting the restrooms located on the far south end of 199 Chambers Street Building, on all seven floors. For more information, contact Eric Lugo at elugo@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Factsheet Reports Gender Imbalance
The BMCC Spring 2019 Enrollment Factsheet is now available online. That semester, 57.6 percent of BMCC students were female and 42.4 percent were male. Data from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics in the table above shows the top seven academic majors in which males or females were significantly underrepresented. Many of these majors are career-related and the gender imbalance may match what is typically found in the workplace. BMCC has launched several initiatives to address these existing gender imbalances.
