BMCC Receives High Ranking for Social Mobility  
BMCC ranks No. 3 among two-year public institutions in the “Highest Student-Mobility Rates, 2014,” according to the Chronicle of Higher Education​. BMCC, which scored a mobility rate of 6.1 percent, was one of several CUNY’s campuses that made a strong showing on the rankings.

Karrin E. Wilks Named BMCC Interim President 
BMCC Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Karrin E. Wilks has been appointed Interim President of BMCC by Interim CUNY Chancellor Vita Rabinowitz. Wilks has served in public higher education administration for more than 30 years. Her leadership includes a focus on developing policy and programs aimed at improving student success, particularly for underserved populations. She will assume her new role on September 1. President Antonio Pérez steps down on August 31.      ​​

New Professors Help Create Unique Undergraduate Experience at BMCC The Fall 2018 semester brings a new wave of freshman at BMCC—and 36 new faculty members. Fall Exhibition Season Opens with Modes of Mapping 
Modes of Mapping, an exhibition that presents a cross-section of contemporary artists engaged in aspects of mapping, will open at BMCC with a reception in The Shirley Fiterman Art Center (SFAC), 81 Barclay Street in lower Manhattan, on September 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on display through October 25.   ​​

Data Show Positive Impact of BLA on Retention and Graduation
Findings from the BMCC Office of Institutional Effectiveness show three-year graduation rates for BMCC Learning Academy (BLA) students have been consistently higher than graduation rates of comparable BMCC students.   ​​

Pérez Embraces Technology to Develop Learning APP
BMCC President Antonio Pérez, who steps down August 31, recently developed the learning app HiddenChalk, which is available to both iPhone and Android users. Pérez discussed his new app in an August 2018 Diverse Issues in Higher Education.

USCIS Tightens Policy Regarding Unlawful Presence for F and J Status Non-Immigrants 
BMCC students, faculty and staff should be aware that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a memo, "USCIS Tightens the Unlawful Presence Policy for Non Immigrants in F and J Status." In a nutshell, the law stipulates that anyone who accumulates more than 180 days of unlawful presence in the country and then decides to leave the country voluntarily, is barred from coming back to the U.S. for three years.​ If you encounter an F-1 international student who may be negatively affected by this new policy, please ask them to contact the International Student Services office at Room S-115N; (212) 776-7179; or internationalstudents@bmcc.cuny.edu, immediately for assistance.

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Announces 2018-2019 Spotlight Season

Marks of Excellence Highlights Wide Range of Learning Experiences  The BMCC Office of Public produces an annual print publication, Marks of Excellence (MOE), that features student and faculty innovation and success. The 2017-2018 MOE has just been released, and is available online. This issue looks at learning that happens in and outside the classroom, in a wide range of disciplines.

BMCC Pool Opens August 27  BMCC students, faculty and staff with a current BMCC ID are welcome to use the fitness center, pool and other Athletic facilities at 199 Chambers Street. See the pool schedule.

Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services The Office of Public Safety provides services and resources to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC. Public Safety provides free C.P.R., A.E.D. and First Aid and Campus-Community Emergency Response Training for faculty, staff and students, and trains staff as campus fire wardens. Faculty and staff, please remind students to register for Fall 2018. Eric Almonte has been named head coach for the Lady Panthers. Coach Almonte has served as an assistant coach at BMCC since 2015.
