BMCC Earns High Rankings Nationwide on Awarding Associate Degrees to Underrepresented Students
BMCC has been given high rankings in the 2018 “Top 100 Degree Producers” outcomes compiled by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and based on analysis of U.S. Department of Education reports submitted by institutions. These include #1 through #5 rankings in awarding associate degrees to minority students in a variety of majors.

Wearable Professor Shares Research on Social Impact of Wearable Technologies
BMCC Sociology Professor Elizabeth Wissinger presented findings from her research that focuses on the social impact of wearable biotechnology at BMCC’s Significant Findings Speaker Series, November 8 in Richard Harris Terrace. From the smartwatch to fashion electronics, the world of wearable technologies continues to expand. Can tech developers avoid repeating mistakes that plague the digital technologies of wearables, as they move into the body? That is one of the questions Wissenger's research seeks to answer.

Panther Partner Program Helps First Generation Students Navigate Academic Life
Panther Partners, a program designed for students at BMCC who are the first in their families to attend college, now has 165 students and 66 staff and faculty mentors. Developed by the BMCC Office of New Student Programs and the Office of Student Affairs, the program provides students with a mentor “panther coach” who offers support and encouragement, throughout their time at BMCC.

NYS Assemblymember Visits BMCC Center for Continuing Education
On November 14, New York State Assemblymember for the 65th District, Yuh-Line Niou, visited the BMCC Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development to meet with students and learn about the state-funded programs that support adult literacy, computer network training and more. Niou has been a supporter of adult literacy and continuing education programs and has been instrumental in helping BMCC secure funding for continuing education programs.

Play

BMCC Stages 14, a Free Play That Opens Dialogue on Undocumented Immigration
The Department of Speech, Communications and Theatre Arts, Office of Academic Affairs and BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC TPAC), with support from the BMCC Foundation, will present José Casas' play, 14 on November 15, 16, 17 and 18 in Theatre 2, 199 Chambers Street. The play is directed by Professor Daphnie Sicre. Each performance is free, open to the public and will be followed by a talk-back session with the director, playwright and others.

BMCC Coat Drive
BMCC students, faculty and staff are invited to donate gently used coats and other clothes as part of the 30th Annual New York Cares coat drive. Donations can be made at the Women's Resource Center in Room S-340 or in the Main Lobby at 199 Chambers Street. For more information contact the Women's Resource Center at (212) 220-8165.

CUNYTuesday BMCC Participating in CUNY Tuesday Giving Challenge November 27
BMCC is gearing up for CUNY Tuesday, the 24-hour giving challenge, set for November 7. CUNY Tuesday donations help BMCC’s most hard-working students fulfill their educational dreams by funding student scholarships. While BMCC’s tuition is just $5,000 each year, around 90% of BMCC students still need financial assistance. Donations, no matter the amount, help students complete their degrees, transfer to four-year colleges and attain their dreams. Visit the BMCC #CUNYTUESDAY landing page and make a donation.

BMCC to Celebrate Grant Recipients
BMCC will celebrate grant-funded research led by faculty members with a reception on November 29 at 5 p.m. in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center. BMCC's professors serve as experts in a variety of fields and their work is reflected in a wide range of research projects. Join a Charrette and Let Your Views Be Part of the Conversation!
This semester the Equity and Inclusion Task Force will conduct a series of charrettes (focus groups) exploring faculty, staff and student perceptions about the extent to which BMCC is a welcoming, inclusive and equity-minded environment. All BMCC community members are invited to participate in one of these 45-minute sessions which will take the form of charrettes, allowing for maximum participation in idea generation, without compromising the quality of the brainstorming. November is Hispanic Heritage Month at BMCC
BMCC will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month throughout November. Events include a display of Hispanic authors in the A. Philip Randolph Memorial Library, a workshop for immigrant students, poetry, film, a performance by Bombazo Dance Company and the Hispanic Literary Film Festival.

November 16 is the Deadline to Transfer to Another Health Benefits Plan
November 16 is the final day employees can transfer into any health plan for which they are eligible, add or drop the Optional Rider and add or drop dependents. Changes will take effect the first day of the first full payroll period in January 2019. Contact Human Resources for the appropriate forms. Flexible Spending Account Enrollment Extended to November 16
The City of New York offers its employees a Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Program, through which they can deposit a portion of their pre-tax income into accounts maintained for certain health and dependent care expenses. The FSA open enrollment period ends November 16, for an effective date of January 1, 2019. Forms are available on the OLR website. For more information, contact the NYC Office of Labor Relations.

Enhance Your Skills Through CUNY Professional Development
The CUNY Professional Development and Learning Management (PDLM) Office presents the October 2018 through June 2019 CUNY Professional Development Program. BMCC faculty and staff can take part in professional and training sessions in areas ranging from MS Excel to data analytics, conflict resolution, business writing and many others. Charitable Giving through an IRA
Donors at least 70½ years old can take advantage of a simple way to satisfy minimum required distribution and also benefit BMCC students at the same time. Donate up to $100,000 from an IRA directly to BMCC Foundation without having to pay federal income taxes.
